The Other Morgan"I don't want to do this."  Morgan eyed the contents of the next room through the glass divider: a cushioned table, vaguely human-shaped and around it, very nearly filling the rest of the space, was a machine like a huge steel block with a hole cut through the middle.  Morgan's reflection stood between herself and the machine, staring at her faintly from the glass-short, plump, mousy haired and looking distinctly uneasy.

Nobody ever seemed to notice the girl sitting at the bus stop by the bank or how she never seemed to actually get on a bus.  You'd think they'd be more alert in place filled with money, but that's neither here nor there.  I wasn't after their money.  I hadn't even really been watching the bank.  I was there for the car.   
It had been parked in the same spot of the parking lot all day every day for the past two weeks.  I watched the way people walked away from it, the way no one wanted to park in the adjacent spaces.  Everyone gave it a wide berth -- the boss Corvette

FragmentsAn image of fire flickered like lightning in his brain.  As abruptly as though someone had flipped a switch, Elus came back into himself.  He felt slow and weak, as though the fog in his mind had not cleared, and he could not remember what came before.

Ghosts of SulirMy hands were shaking uncontrollably.   
I held them over the wound, felt the blood flowing between my fingers.  I watched it drop into the blue of the water and spread in inky clouds.  Fish stirred below, pale and slimy, their eyes wide and hungry.  The sting of the bite was lessening.  It was frightening to realize that it was all fading away, the pain, the cold, the feeling.  Time was fading too.  I didn't have much left.

After starting it a couple of years ago, I finally finished "The Other Morgan." And then I actually posted it. So there it is.

In other news, I live. I continue to sit on my ass in boredom most of the day (or try not to), apply for jobs, not hear anything back from prospective employers, drain my modest little savings account to keep hospital bills out of the hands of collections agencies, and generally despair about life in general. Also, I read books to alleviate the boredom and occasionally try to write. Eventually someone will take pity on me and employ me. It'll be a crappy job for minimum wage, but I don't care. Minimum wage is far superior to no wage.

Good books I've read lately -- General Winston's Daughter by Sharon Shinn, Dream Angus by Alexander McCall Smith, and Widdershins by Charles de Lint. I read books for teeny boppers on occasion. They're not depressing. I'd like to read The Forest of Hands and Teeth, but it has zombies in it and I'm prone to nightmares about zombies. I'll read it anyway, I'm sure, but not until it comes out in paperback.

Also, WTF is a journal skin? Hah. Haven't posted a journal in ages.
